Brief history:

ReoGalor was born and raised in Saint Paul. Galor recalls his first few memories of him living in an apartment building in the metropolitan area and then staying with his Grandma in the McDonough projects towards downtown Saint Paul. Later following his parents from the Greater Eastside to other places around the metropolitan and surrounding suburbs like; Maplewood, White Bear and Oakdale. Reo started writing poems and manufactured spoken word exerts at the young age of nine years old. I asked him at what age did he first hear his voice on a track, and gave me this big ass smile. The first time he heard his voice recorded was at the age of fifteen or sixteen. He also mentioned that he would upload his sounds via Datpiff.com but didn’t officially release a project until 2012 titled ‘Red Bull Trippin’.

Where do you stay at these days, Reo?

North-side, Minneapolis “the hood”. All of Minnesota has bad areas but for some reason North-side gets a bad rep. There is indeed a community here. If we had more people that cared about the community in general, this area would flourish. The community has this aspect where unity is prioritized.

Inspiration: Family! The Kindred spirit. Family doesn’t always mean blood. People are related through blood. Meeting people in life that you eventually form a close bond with then become family. Looking at my family wanting to improve myself as well as my peers. Also, being yourself, don’t let anything get in your way like; negativity and unnecessary distractions. TRYING TO BE THE BEST VERSION OF ME IS WHAT INSPIRES ME. Inspired.  Striving to improving and mastering myself not just in music, but in all aspects of life.

Process of making music: Music is deep shit, deep mathematics, sometimes making music isn’t even made on purpose. Music is universal. Trying to be as open-minded and free as possible is vital. I start of by putting on the beats listening to random sounds. I have about 1,000 recordings of all sorts of sounds, personal memos, ideas and beats that help me formulate a foundation for my music. I make beats and produce/engineer as well, which is something I enjoy as much as writing music . Sometimes I’ll have something in my head and its all complete but it tunes in and out. Hearing the beats and vocals and trying catch them (the sounds) through my phone, spitting random shit playing with keyboards trying to build on top of something very basic. Trying to make stuff sometimes happens on accident.

“They tried to turn me into a monster but I kept my heart to gold.”

Describe your music: Uniqueness, you’re never gonna just get one specific sound that you can throw a label on. Switching up flows and making sure to offer an array of emotions is key. Also a reflective sound, meaning; looking into yourself for better or worse. Self-reflection and bringing back memories of what was felt in certain situations. Poetic sound!

Previous projects:

Redbulltrippin (2012)- I started getting a little more recognition growing a little spotlight. Not exactly what I wanted to do as far as the style. I’m kind of glad it didn’t go further than it did because I wasn’t ready to pursue that style or direction of music.

Indigo (2016)- Spur of the moment project. just thinking; “Let me put this out and update ya’ll.”

Mama (2017)- This was a more personal project, a healing process. Being vulnerable and doing things that were against recommendations was a form of approving of myself.

Seems Something Like Love (2018)- this included a little bit of heartbreak lyrics. The lyrics were written within a week, but obviously the whole process took a while. The album has a long feeling of past love and pain.

Future endeavors: I’m going to turn it up a little more this year compared to my latest albums, adding a little bit more of trap elements while still keeping my sound original. Working on new music and releasing singles. There’s a lot of plans in the near future, expressing more in different mediums.
